East of the sun and west of the moon
A FAIRY TALE FROM NORWAY WITH MUSIC & PICTURES

Beautiful Astri finds and loses a mysterious prince. The search for her lover takes her to the castle east of the sun and west of the moon ...

Between the Scandinavian mainland and the Arctic Circle sprawl the waters and islands of the Arctic Ocean, one of the last great wildernesses in Europe. This region: the north of Norway, Iceland, the Shetland Islands, the Hebrides and the Orkneys - they are legendary Viking land.

In our program we tell a poetic tale from this distant world and from a time when Christianity began to replace the pagan cultures of the north. This even reflects in the music: still archaic folk songs meet latin hymns and psalms. We play and sing this music, which can partly be traced back to the Vikings: epic bard songs, mediaeval hymns, prayers and ancient Icelandic folk songs.

And we add a special feature: telling and music are combined with a multimedia show by photographer Heike Goertz-Liedtke, presenting pictures from the Viking's zones.
